August Wellness Champion – Sara Judice

We’d like to recognize our Lemoine Wellness Champion of the Month for August- Sara Judice!

For those of you who don’t know, Sara began working with us in April 2016 as a receptionist and transitioned into the Project Management Assistant role by October of that year. Sara is currently working on the following projects: Nicholson Gateway, Lafayette Airport, Lake Charles Verandah, and Comeaux High School.

Here is Sara’s motivation:

“What motivates me is simple… I don’t like when my pants are tight. I don’t like feeling tired all the time or out of breath coming up the two flights of stairs at work. I want to be someone my kids and other young people can look up to.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE food, but I had to come to grips with portioning how much I eat, along with exercise or I was going to continually feel bad about myself. I was one to never eat breakfast, but I started eating at least a granola bar or crackers late morning now. Then, I rotate how big or small my dinner is from what I had at lunch. (if I had a big lunch I’ll eat small for dinner and vice versa).

Last year I decided I needed a goal in my life, something different. I’ve never been a long-distance runner so in May of last year, when Kim brought up Lemoine sponsoring the Jazz Half Marathon and possibly running in it, I finally decided on a goal. Something to train for, something to look forward to, something I had never ever done or thought of doing. When that was over and done with I needed another goal then another. I ended up with a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K, and a mini triathlon under my belt in less than a year, and more to come!”

Sara has lost 10 pounds in the last month and says, “tightening just one belt loop is one of the greatest feelings!”

Sara’s best advice about living a healthy lifestyle is “to have a goal, attain it and have another. It’s all a part of life’s progression, but always be moving forward.”

Here is more information about the importance of eating a health breakfast from rush.edu:

  • It jump-starts your metabolism – helping you burn more calories throughout the day!
  • Those who skip breakfast have a higher body mass index (BMI)
    • BMI measurement -> the ratio of a person’s weight compared to height, as an easy measure of whether someone is in the range of his or her healthy weight or not
  • Advantages:
    • Lower BMI
    • Meeting recommended amounts of fruits, vegetables, calcium, fiber, and consuming less fat throughout the day
    • Better performance – memory & attention
  • Disadvantages:
    • More likely to be overweight
    • More likely to consume unhealthy snacks

Congratulations, Sara, on achieving your goal and striving every day to be a healthier you!

July Wellness Champion – Dylan Malbrough

We’d like to recognize our Lemoine Wellness Champion of the Month for July – Dylan Malbrough!
For those of you who don’t know, Dylan began working with us in the fall of 2015 as an Operations Intern at Patrick Taylor Hall. He has been working as a LEAP Project Engineer for the past two years and is currently closing Matherne’s Market at Nicholson Gateway. He is about to begin his last rotation in the program: Estimating!
Dylan’s health and wellness journey began in his early childhood, as he was an active year-round athlete even throughout high school. Beginning college and career made it difficult to find time for physical fitness, so he got involved with LSU’s rugby intramural team to stay active. After graduation, he looked for new ways to stay fit.
Dylan would like to thank his coworkers Bryan O’Connor and Robert Broussard for helping him find one of his newest passions: triathlons! About 1 year ago, these 3 employees decided to commit to a 5-month training for a 70.3-mile Ironman Race, which consists of a 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run, and 1.2-mile swim. Dylan says that by training, he finally learned how to swim, which he comically adds as a past struggle for him in his summer kid camp days.
Dylan’s current workout routine to stay fit and healthy consists of visiting the gym 4-5 times per week for 45 minute – 2-hour sessions each. He currently follows a 12-week high school football summer training plan created by a family member. Oh his “off” days, you can find Dylan jogging with his dog, performing yoga, or completing a CrossFit of the day workout. He recently also started a 100-consecutive pushups challenge, which you can find more information about here!
To live a healthy lifestyle, Dylan suggests finding some form of exercise that fits your lifestyle but also tests you to occasionally go out of your comfort zone and find new ways to enjoy getting active.
How do you stay motivated to be healthy and active? For Dylan, exercise is a form of stress relief, “alone time,” and a way to challenge himself. He says that ending or beginning the day with a “win” is a mood booster. He also adds that there is an unsaid and ongoing competition between himself and his two brothers to stay physically fit, so sibling rivalry also attributes to staying motivated. He does add that the numerous benefits of staying healthy in itself is also a good motivator, and he enjoys seeing the physical results.
Dylan was nominated as a Wellness Champion of the month for consistently working towards a happy and healthy lifestyle. Thank you for being a great example of what the wellness program is about!
Congratulations, Dylan, on striving every day to be a healthier you!
