Moncus Park Master Plan Begins to Take Shape

Moncus Park, located in the heart of the city of Lafayette and the region of Acadiana, is an important community and cultural center. The 100 acre park is spotted with large live oaks, rolling hills, open meadows, and forested ravines. In 2013, the park board began gathering community input to create a vision for the future of the park and what it could become for the region. In 2017, this vision began coming to life as the Master Plan started to be implemented with a ground-breaking.

Thus far in 2021, a series of major improvements, known as Phase II of the project, have started to take shape. Underway are a playground, an interactive water feature, a tree house, Veterans Memorial, a dog park, an amphitheater, walking trails and more.  The playground, water feature, and tree house will all be located in the front portion of the park and feature a swamp theme. The water feature will welcome children with a splash pad and 25-foot alligator that they can climb inside. Designed by veterans, the Veterans Memorial will be a special component of the park. There will be flags flying, historic markers representing major conflicts, and brick pavers featuring names of community members that have contributed to this effort.

With weather permitting, by the end of 2021 the dog park, walking trails, Veterans Memorial, amphitheater, interactive water feature, inclusive playground, tree house, restrooms, and parking will be ready for the public to enjoy.

Lenny Lemoine, CEO of The Lemoine Company, is the current Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for Moncus Park. He is passionate about the community and values the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
